• This mailing/broadcast list is intended as a low-traffic announcement list -- not as a chatty discussion list.
• The list is only accessible to club members and local boaters (spam protection). Therefore you can send messages to the list only from those of your accounts that are registered with us (the actual account counts, not your personal name).

  If you encounter problems with the above management tool, or like to change your email address, please send a request to canoe@freeshell.org (do that from the account you like to add, if that's the case).
  - Do not send such requests to the list itself since everybody will read it, but nothing may happen.

• To broadcast a message simply address it to ccc-list@lists.opn.org
  - a descriptive Subject line is appreciated.
  - for events provide both, a day-of-week and numeric date (easier to glance over; redundancy helps catching typos)
  - plan your announcement to reduce the number of avoidable follow-up corrections.
• To reply to a message you normally want to address it to the sender only.
  If you think your reply is of interest to everybody else then reply to the list (the original sender will automatically get a copy too).
• To avoid duplicate messages for list members, and to preserve other recipient's privacy avoid carbon copies to others in a broadcast message. Broadcast messages with more than 3 recipients will bounce.
• To prevent virus infected mail from being broadcasted through this list we have put a filter in place that removes all attachments and converts HTML formatted text into plain text. If filtering took place a short note usually informs the reader about this.

• Your email address is only known to the manger of the list and will not be given to any third parties. (of course, EFN/OPN operations needs to maintain a list of email addresses at a safe place to provides this service)
• Messages are intended from members of this list to members of this list -- unless it is obvious from the content of a message (or a specific part of a message) that further forwarding is desired, please respect the author's privacy and contact the original sender if/how further forwarding is acceptable. Reason: forwarded messages occasionally end up in other mail archives that are scanned by search engines making them available to the entire www.  You may not find it cool that your employer, client, customer, ex-person, etc... can conveniently look up what you have sent to a small, designated group of boaters in the Willamette Valley.

depends...	Broadcasting on legislative and environmental issues. Please, use in a responsible fashion. On one side we don't want to impose any kind of censorship, and often share a common concern on such issues -- on the other hand, such kind of messages (and the subsequent series of replies) can get easily out of control and out-number local trip- and event announcements. Sales and Wanted ads for boating gear. (again, use in a responsible fashion)
Discouraged	Reply to entire list unless it's really relevant to everybody else. Selling your car, renting your house, etc... Chain letters, silly jokes, etc...
