Eugene Celebration thoughts and suggestions =========================================== Mari's suggestion -- typed and extended by Horst ------------------------------------------------ (in no particular order) 1) Participate in the parade next time !!! The route is much shorter now, and we don't have to haul a ton of boats. What counts is some funny design idea and an obvious pointer how to contact us. We need those canoe hats, as shown in 1995: http://www.efn.org/~canoe/images/ccc_eug-celib95.jpg 2) Booth layout: create a U-shaped area that draws in people -- the canopy allows us to display material from three sites. 3) Have a list of rives and lakes (in large letters) and a large map at an exposed and accessible position (plus one large photo of it, rather then many small ones) The map should allow people to write/draw on it, sort of like a wish list where interested boaters like to go, and where our club members have been. Most people spend more time driving along or crossing a river than they float on it, but they'd rather do the opposite: this poster may assist them in getting their priorities straight. 4) Display of wooden boat building photos. 5) A big sign like "Visit us at www...." Penelope did a great job in drawing some ad-hoc and on-site signs for our booth -- hint, hint :-) Phil was wondering who decorated the back of his posters... but he liked it ! 6) Have previous newsletters printed and hand out to genuinely interested folks; at least have a few on display. 7) Have a clipboard handy (with pen attached) to take notes regarding contacts, suggestions, questions in a way that the info can be forwarded to corresponding club officers. 8) Have some change handy. (I couldn't sell the E. Gates book because of lack of change, HL) Excerpts from the wiki page 2003 -------------------------------- Additional Notes & Messages... Also, bring photos from previous trips to be displayed at the booth (have them either mounted on a solid surface, or in a photo album, or on 3-ring binder sheets -- add your name and return information on back). Either drop them off Saturday morning or contact Robert/Omar for prior arrangements. --Horst I've got several empty photo album binders I can make available for loose club photos. Please label photos so I know who to return them to. --Jeff I'll be running off about 75 B&W copies each of the new CCC flyer and the application/waiver form. Other materials suitable for hand out or sale would be great. I think Omar has a couple copies of Willamette River Guide ; reprints of Paddling Lane County would be nice too - anybody know how to get in touch with Jim Hutchison? --Jeff I called the Oregon State Marine Board; they are sending us 150(!) copies each of Willamette River Recreation Guide(*) and Paddling Oregon Safely for our booth. I've had a copy of the former for several years - its pretty nice! --Jeff I've put together an informal display shelf for the various handouts out of a kitchen drawer and some scrap wood. I also will bring along an old produce crate for use as a bookshelf for all the paddling books that will be on display for folks to peruse. --Jeff -----------------------------------------
